A true blue Aussie legend and his quick thinking has been praised as bushfires ravage Perth’s northern suburbs.
A passerby in Wangara captured the man’s heroic efforts on camera when he single-handedly took on a spot fire, believed to have been sparked by embers from the nearby Wanneroo bushfire, on the corner of Wanneroo Road and Prindiville Drive on Thursday night.
The man can be seen emerging from his parked-up ute — with double pluggers on his feet and a fire extinguisher in hand — quickly dousing the flame, which looked to have been burning for some time.
A big patch of grass was turned to charcoal as a result.
The video posted to social media highlights just how important it is for people outside of the immediate fire zone to be aware of embers creating havoc.
The man was universally praised for his quick thinking.
“Local hero for sure!” said one.
“What a champ!” said another.
While others were aware of the threat ember fires posed.
“Definitely an ember fire,” they said.
“It’s scary how far they can travel. That’s why I had a helicopter buzzing around my suburb all day watching for ember fires!”
