TACKLING STUBBLE BURNING: UP govt to distribute 17 lakh bio-decomposers, launch awareness drive

AS PART of efforts to curb stubble burning in the winter, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a campaign to raise awareness as well as distribute agriculture equipment for crop residue management as well as set the target to distribute 17 lakh bio-decomposers for stubble this financial year.

Officials said on Tuesday that in order to check stubble burning, bio-decomposers would be given free of cost to the farmers., while 50 per cent subsidy is being provided on purchase of single agriculture equipment. Around 44,363 such subsidised equipment has been distributed to the farmers till date.

Officials said that last year,13.22 lakh bio-decomposers were distributed to the farmers. However, this year the target is to distribute bio-decomposers to 17 lakh farmers. So far, 1.66 lakh bio-decomposers have been distributed for this season in this financial year.

Burning of stubble contributes to air pollutants and is also considered to affect soil fertility. As a result, bio-decomposers are sprinkled on the agriculture residue to decompose it rather than burn it. It is believed that bio-decomposers naturally decompose the agriculture residue there by maintaining soil fertility along with stopping air pollutants as well.
