The lawyer for a city teen facing charges in connection with a Calgary Zoo parking lot machete attack is still awaiting disclosure to determine if a bail bid will be made.

Defence counsel Thomas Scholten, appearing for lead lawyer James Wyman, said disclosure on the allegations involving a Boxing Day incident at the zoo has not fully been received.

“Mr. Wyman indicated to me he’s still missing disclosure on the newest file,” Scholten told youth court Justice Lillian McLellan.

“He has reached out to the prosecutor, I believe in Edmonton, and they are expediting disclosure.”

Court had earlier been told the incident at the zoo involved a conflict for the Calgary Crown prosecutor’s office and out-of-town counsel was required.

Scholten asked that the matter return to court Friday when it’s hoped Wyman will have further information and may be able to schedule a bail hearing for his client.

The accused faces allegations on four separate court files including charges related to a Dec. 26 incident in the north parking lot of the Calgary Zoo.

The 17-year-old, who can’t be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was on bail on three charges of assault with a weapon, a common assault and multiple allegations of breach of release conditions when he was arrested Dec. 26.

Police said they responded around 6:30 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a person swinging a machete at people and vehicles.

They said one person sustained a minor injury and multiple vehicles were damaged in what was believed to be random attacks related to alcohol and drug consumption.

The accused faces two charges of assault with a weapon, three of mischief to property and three further counts of breaching release conditions in connection with the zoo incident.

An additional new charge of mischief was also on Wednesday’s docket.
