Ref scolds Colorado PA and nearly issues penalty for music on Stanford snaps

Colorado football games are bringing a lot of firsts.

And, for many, it was the first time they saw a referee rip the person operating the public address system during a game for playing music while an opposing team was running their offense, but that’s exactly what happened on Friday evening.

Following a first quarter, where the Colorado Buffaloes led the Stanford Cardinal 14-0, a referee felt the need to address, not the crowd, but the PA announcer before the first play of the second quarter.

“Would the public address announcer please stop playing while Stanford is in formation, ready to snap the ball,” he said sternly while nearly drowned out by a parade of boos from the Colorado fans.

The referee then continued, “Anymore playing of the music and sound effects will result in an unsportsmanlike conduct foul against Colorado.”

Outside of that craziness, the game itself also featured the return of two-way star Travis Hunter, who plays wide receiver and cornerback for the team.

Hunter had been out for one month following an illegal hit in the team’s win over rival Colorado State on Sept 16.

After the hit, Hunter was subsequently sent to the hospital and was then working to make his return after being away from the field with a lacerated liver.

In the game Friday, the Jackson State transfer and 2022 SWAC Freshman of the Year emphatically announced his return with an incredible touchdown reception and run on third down just outside the Stanford red zone.
