French President Emmanuel Macron says Notre Dame cathedral is on track to reopening to the public as he unveiled its new spire.
This comes after France’s best-known church went up in flames in 2019, which many feared was the end of Notre Dame’s 850-year history.
While an electrical fault is considered the likely culprit of the blaze, no definitive cause has been established.
Macron vowed in 2019 the cathedral would be rebuilt within five years.
He says construction is on track to have the cathedral reopened to the public one year from this weekend.
