The pilot of a small aircraft made an emergency landing Tuesday on a highway near Salmo, in B.C.’s West Kootenay region.
RCMP say someone called at 9 a.m. to report a small plane parked on the side of Highway 6.

An officer with the B.C. Highway Patrol arrived and located the 1969 Lake Capithian single engine aircraft, pulled off to the side of the highway.
The pilot, who was close by, told the officer that the aircraft suffered a catastrophic engine failure, according to an RCMP news release Wednesday.
So, police say the pilot made the decision to attempt an emergency landing along the stretch of highway.
The plane’s engine had notable damage, but the rest of the plane was OK. The pilot was unharmed. The plane was towed to a safer location.
RCMP have notified Navigation Canada.
