Perfect 10 for record-equalling Jakara Anthony

    [ad_1]

Jakara Anthony is now officially the joint-most successful Australian moguls skier of all time, winning her 18th FIS World Cup title with a dual moguls gold in Waterville, New Hampshire.

Winning the dual moguls event saw the reigning Olympic champion draw level with Australia’s two-time Olympic medallist Dale Begg-Smith.

The victory was Anthony’s tenth gold in one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory.

Anthony has now won her past eight starts, but did not have it all her own way in the USA.

American Jaelen Kauf, Anthony’s closest challenger, pushed her all the way in the gold medal run, with Anthony just coming out on top of the home favourite 18-17.

“It was really cool to come to Waterville,” Anthony said.

“I haven’t been to too many brand new places on tour recently, so get to come to somewhere new and experience it has been really awesome.”

New venue or old, Anthony has been virtually untouchable this season.

The only time the 25-year-old has not come away with a gold medal across moguls and dual moguls events this season, she won bronze.

Having already wrapped up the overall moguls crystal globe for the season, Anthony now just has one last record in her sights at the next venue, the 2002 Olympic run at Deer Valley.

“Deer Valley is always the highlight of the season for everyone, so really looking to that,” Anthony said.

“They put on a good show there and it’s one of my favourite courses.

“It’s where I got my first World Cup start, my first World Championship podium and I had a win there last year, so looking forward to getting back there.”

Anthony needs just one more win this season to equal the record set by America’s Hannah Kearney, which has stood since the 2011/2012 season.

“It’s been a crazy season,” Anthony said.

“One win off that record set by Hannah Kearney, it’s getting close now.

“We will have to see what the rest of season brings, but I won’t be focusing on that too much, that’s when I might start making mistakes.

“So [I will] keep focusing on what I need to do out there and get better every competition.”
