Lok Sabha Election 2024: ECI To Announce Much-Awaited Poll Schedule Today

    [ad_1]

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Schedule: The Election Commission (EC) will unveil the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. In a notification shared on X, the poll panel disclosed that a press conference detailing the schedule for Lok Sabha elections and some state assemblies is scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday. The present term of the Lok Sabha concludes on June 16, necessitating the formation of a new House before that. Concurrently, the assemblies in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha are set to complete their terms on various dates in June.

Gyanesh Kumar And Sukhbir Singh Sandhu Assume Charge As Election Commissioners

The announcement will happen exactly a week after Arun Goel resigned from the post of Election Commissioner paving the way for the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as election commissioners who assumed charge on Friday.

Earlier, the election body stated that approximately 97 crore Indians would be able to vote in this year’s Lok Sabha elections, representing a 6% rise in registered voters from 2019. The Election Commission of India issued the electoral registers in all States/UTs throughout the country in early February, following the months-long intense Special Summary Revision 2024.

The Election Commission is dedicated to guaranteeing inducement-free, impartial, peaceful, and transparent polling during the Lok Sabha election, and it would maintain a fair playing field for all political parties, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said at a news conference earlier this month. “The Commission has given strict orders to all the district magistrates and superintendents of police to ensure a level playing field for all the political parties during the election. If there is a violation by lower-level officers, DMs and SPs will be held responsible,” Kumar had said.

Along with the Lok Sabha election, several states including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are also preparing to hold simultaneous assembly polls in the coming months, according to media reports.

In 2019, the Lok Sabha elections were conducted in seven phases between April and May. The results were declared on May 23, 2019.
