Live coverage: First Republican debate, part two

    [ad_1]

Live coverage of the eight not-Trumps on stage in Milwaukee now at what seems like hour 200, but is only hour two. Nothing like sharing your evening with Fox News, as well as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, venture capitalist Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, and Mike Pence.

Feel that Burgum and Hutchinson energy.

Baier promises future policy discussion, but then says they will briefly “talk about the elephant not in the room.”

If Trump is convicted, would you still support him as nominee? Raise your hands. Hands go up, but not Christie’s. “Whether or not you believe that the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States.” He gets booed, says that booing is allowed but it doesn’t change the truth. He gets booed more.

Ramaswamy, whose hand was first to go up, says Trump was the best president evah, and then attacks Christie for running a campaign of grievance against Trump before turning to “weaponization of justice” claims.

Christie tries to talk over the boos, but he has to wait. The moderators ask the audience to be quiet. Christie says Ramaswamy is talking about wanting to stand up for the rule of law, but he said very different things in his book. Ramaswamy frantically tries to talk over Christie. Christie says that Trump tried to suspend the Constitution, which is in violation of the president’s oath of office.

Have to say, not Christie’s strongest moment. I think the booing shook him.
