It will be a cold day today, with sunny spells developing across most of the country, Met Éireann has forecast.

Temperatures for Saturday will remain between 5 and 8 degrees, while areas near the south and west coast will experience milder temperatures and rain is expected to develop there by the evening.

Overnight temperatures could drop to as low as zero degrees in the north and northeast, with lowest overnight temperatures there, of between 0 and 4 degrees forecast. Frost and fog could also develop in the area.

Sunday’s weather is set to bring a mixture of conditions across the country. Some sunny spells are expected to develop in the afternoon but scattered showers are also forecast, according to Met Éireann.

Sunday is also expected to be milder than today, with highest temperatures of between 7 and 10 degrees. Those temperatures are expected to drop to between 4 and 6 degrees overnight.

There will be a cloudy start to Monday, with patches of rain and drizzle in parts of the country in the morning. While cool and bright conditions will move into the north, isolated showers will continue, especially in Leinster, Met Éireann said. Highest temperatures for Monday of between 7 and 10 degrees are forecast.

Monday night will see a widespread frost set in, with lowest temperatures of plus 2 to minus 2 degrees. There is also the possibility of icy patches as well as mist and fog.

While Tuesday is forecast to be mostly dry, with sunny spells developing as fog and mist clear, there is the chance of some showers across the north coast. Highest temperatures of between 5 to 8 degrees are forecast, but temperatures will fall close to freezing overnight.

The cold weather is expected to continue into Wednesday and Thursday with hail and sleet also a possibility.

“Current indications suggest, cold weather for Wednesday and Thursday bringing showers of rain, hail and sleet. It will turn progressively colder and some snow is possible over Ulster and high ground further south,” Met Éireann said.

Bright sunny spells are also possible, with cold daytime temperatures of between 3 and 6 degrees, falling to freezing or below overnight.
