BHUBANESWAR: Confident of returning to govt at Centre for a third straight term, defence minister Rajnath Singh said Thursday he was of the “firm conviction” that PM Narendra Modi would secure a third term.”Here, in the sacred land of Lord Jagannath, I express my wish that Hindustan would also like to see Modi Ji serve as PM for a fourth term,” Rajnath said at a rally in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district.Rajnath, who was on a day-long visit to Odisha ahead of simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state, addressed three meetings, the other two in Nabarangpur and Berhampur.Stating that respect for India has gone up internationally because of Modi’s leadership and people’s faith in him, Rajnath said, “India is scaling new heights. From the 11th-largest economy, India is now in the top five, and under Modi Ji it will be among the top three by 2027. PM’s vision of a developed India by its centenary year in 2047 is going to be a reality.”Rajnath said no force can prevent BJP from establishing a “double engine sarkar”. He refrained from directly criticising CM Naveen Patnaik or BJD, but was unsparing of Congress. “You saw what Congress govt did for so many years. Congress leaders would say they would end poverty. But in 70 years did they end poverty? However, Modi Ji took 25 crore people out of poverty in nine years,” he said.He said past govts made so many promises that people’s faith in politicians and parties had started eroding. “But BJP has ended the crisis of credibility in politics. We have fulfilled all the promises made in our election manifesto,” he said.
