A LaSalle woman would have fallen victim to the ‘grandparent’ scam last week if it weren’t for the interruption of her husband, say police.

LaSalle Police Service said a female resident in the 800 block of Bouffard Road was contacted on May 30 around 11:30 a.m. by an individual clamining be her grandson.
The male caller said he had been arrested because of a friend carrying drugs, and he needed a large amount of cash for bail.
Believing the call, the senior-age woman gathered up the cash. A follow-up call from the impersonator (who was pretending to cry to add urgency to the situation) advised her that an individual was coming to her residence to collect the money.
A unidentified male arrived at the woman’s doorstep around 12:30 p.m. However, the door was answered by the woman’s husband, who told the stranger that he was contacting police.
The suspect left empty-handed. Later in the day, the residence received another call from the fraudsters who tried to continue the scheme by speaking with a different family member.
