A LaSalle man has been charged in connection with the death of 47-year-old Tony Bechara of Windsor in Belle River on Jan. 20.
Glen Mayer, 47, is charged with first degree murder. He remains in custody.

Lakeshore OPP say the accused turned himself in to LaSalle police following a shooting on Faleria Street in Lakeshore the same day.
The Essex County OPP Crime Unit continues the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and the LaSalle Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

A local disc jockey and a waiter at the Bourbon Tap and Grill in Tecumseh, Bechara was well liked, said Greg Lemay, who knew him for more than 20 years.
“He was a very genuine and kind person,” said Lemay, adding he always took the time to show interest in others. “Even text message, it wouldn’t be a just a simple reply. It would be,
‘Hi Greg. How’s your day?
“Just a nice, nice man.”
Lemay’s parents, who also knew Bechara, would often ask for him when they visited the Bourbon, Lemay said. “My parents always enjoy just the conversations.”
Dozens of people responded with shock and sadness to Lemay’s Facebook tribute to Bechara.
“Tony was the nicest person and loved by everyone he met. Such a hard loss,” wrote one poster.
“The last time I saw him he gave me the biggest hug! What a great guy,” wrote another.
Bechara’s funeral is being handled by the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home. No arrangements have yet been announced.
