The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance in the case of an Irish citizen who has reportedly been detained in Iraq.
Anti-corruption activist Yasser Eljuboori, who holds Irish citizenship, was detained in Baghdad while travelling back to Ireland, his wife said in a post shared to social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance,” a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”
