Adam Campton will trade Brisbane for Sydney as he looks to get Deepour’s campaign back on track following a disappointing run in the Ramorine Handicap earlier this month.
The Gold Coast trainer had nominated his stable star to run at both Eagle Farm and Randwick on Saturday, but will opt for the latter, as he looks to give his explosive sprinter some experience away from home.
With bigger fish to fry down the track, Campton said he is keen to give Deepour a look at Randwick in the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1100m).
“It just looks a nice race for him really,” Campton said. “He will go down (on Thursday night), the trip away will do him good.”
“It’s about getting him down there and having a look at Randwick, to set him up for his next preparation.
“His run two starts ago over the 1100m was brilliant, so hopefully they go hard and he can launch, he won’t be as far back this time.”
A well supported favourite in the Ramorine at Grafton earlier this month, Deepour failed to fire, but Campton is still looking at the positives, saying the five-year-old never raised the white flag.
He maintains he is just as bullish on his future as he was going into the race, and says he will map out a plan following Saturday’s run.
“It was a matter of how the race panned out in the Ramorine,” Campton said.
“They went slow and he has to get to the outside. It was nothing to do with Kyle (Wilson-Taylor), it was a beautiful ride, but he has to get to the outside and let rip in some clear air.
“I thought the way he kept trying and attacked the line up the inside was pretty big.”
Deepour is a $3.20 favourite in the Class 6 Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm, and is rated a $5.50 chance with TAB at Randwick.
