SMEs also made up 56 per cent (or £101.6bn) of the total contribution of the digital sector to the UK economy in 2021, more than the automotive, aerospace, and chemicals sectors combined (TechUK). The UK’s tech SMEs are a driving force in the economy and we should be supporting further growth in the sector, not permitting data monopolisation that stifles innovation, contributing to wider economic stagnation.
