Leaders of the Gujarat Ansari OBC movement Saturday called on state BJP president C R Paatil seeking his intervention to resolve the issues faced by the community members in obtaining the Bakshipanch certificate.

A delegation comprising Sagir Ahmed Ansari, Shoeb Ansari, Zainul Ansari and Shakeel Ansari handed over to Paatil in Surat a letter detailing the issues faced by the community in the state.

According to movement convenor Sagir Ahmed, there are over 57 different Ansari organisations in the state. “We have brought all the organisations under the umbrella body of Gujarat Ansari OBC Movement. The OBC bakshipanch certificates will help the Ansari students for education purposes,” he said.

The letter stated that after the implementation of Bakshipanch’s recommendations in Gujarat in 1978, the Ansaris were being given Julaya OBC certificates. However, for the past few years, they have been facing a lot of difficulties in getting the certificates.

“Both Julaya and Ansari names have been placed together on the Gujarat state list of OBCs of the Central government and accordingly, the OBC certificate of Ansari is obtained. Hence, it is clear that Ansari and Julaya are the same caste,” the letter read.

    Festive offer

“Since 2005, we have been continuously making representations regarding the matter, on the basis of which the department officials have also recommended that our demand is reasonable. The government has taken the advice of the OBC commission in our case. Also, in the report commissioned by the tribal research and training centre at Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad, it has been recommended that the Ansari caste and Julaya caste should be given Bakshipanch certificates to provide them with the same facilities as OBCs. Despite that, the matter is not resolved till date,” it added.

The delegation has requested Paatil to take up the matter with the government promptly to resolve the issue and take a decision to allow the Ansari community members to get the Bakshipanch certificate.

“Around 15 days ago, we made a representation to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on the issue. Today, Paatil listened to us and assured us of all possible help. There are over 10 lakh Ansari community members residing in different parts of Gujarat,” Ahmed said.
