Android 14 update tracker: When will your phone get it?

In February 2023, Google officially announced the first developer preview of Android 14. Months later, on October 4, 2023, the company launched the stable version. That might be all well and good, but which phones will get Android 14? When can I update to Android 14? We’ve got some answers for you below!

This article will see continuous updates as the release cycle of the 2023 Android version continues. As such, we highly recommend bookmarking this article and coming back occasionally to check if there have been any updates for your phone!

What’s new in Android 14?

In 2021, Android 12 was a wild reinvention of what the operating system looks like and can do. In 2022, Android 13 was a subtle iteration of that. In 2023, we have another iterative year, as there aren’t too many massive changes in Android 14.

There are undoubtedly new things to talk about, though! You’ll have more control over font size (you can go up 200% now!), and battery life should be better. There are more privacy and security features, including prohibiting the installation of ancient apps. However, most of the significant changes to Android 14 are on the developer side, so they’re things the general user won’t see.

ASUS promises two Android upgrades for its phones. As such, we know the following phones will get Android 14:

ASUS Zenfone 10
ASUS ROG Phone 7 and its variants
ASUS Zenfone 9
ASUS ROG Phone 6 and its variants

Phones launched before and including the Zenfone 8 series have already received Android 13, which is the final version promised by ASUS. They will not get Android 14. Any 2023 phones from ASUS will get Android 14, including the Zenfone 10 and the ROG Phone 7.

As for when you can expect your ASUS phone to get the latest version of Android, the company is pretty slow with its rollouts. We would be surprised if any phones received A14 before the end of 2023.

Google launched Android 14 for Pixel phones on October 4, 2023. That same day, it also launched the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are the first phones to ship with Android 14 out of the box. Here’s the full list of Pixel phones that should have Android 14 right now:

Unfortunately, if you have a Pixel phone launched before the Google Pixel 4a 5G — including the earlier, non-5G Google Pixel 4a — you will not get Android 14.

Elsewhere, we fully expect the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola to get Android 14 eventually.

As for Motorola, its latest flagships should get an Android 14 beta soon, although we have no idea when. It wouldn’t surprise us to see it land on the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) first. It’s also possible that the Motorola Razr (2023) and Razr Plus (2023) could receive beta access. We’ll need to wait and see on that one, though. They will definitely see the stable release at some point!

Nothing only has two phones at the moment: the Nothing Phone 1 and Nothing Phone 2. The first phone launched with Android 12 and is currently on Android 13. Nothing promises three Android upgrades, which means the company will deliver Android 14 to the Phone 1 and Phone 2, likely before the end of 2023.

It is likely the Nothing Phone 2 will see a stable version of Android 14 before the Nothing Phone 1. However, the Nothing Phone 2 still doesn’t have an open beta program.

For the bulk of its flagship phones, OnePlus promises three Android upgrades. Its most recent release — the OnePlus 11 — will even get four Android upgrades. As such, there are quite a few devices we expect to get Android 14:

The OnePlus 11 already has access to the Android 14 beta. Unfortunately, not all OnePlus 11 phones qualify (there’s no support for carrier variants), and there are a lot of known issues. If you have a flagship OnePlus device — such as the 8T, 9/9 Pro, 10 Pro/10T, etc. — you will see Android 14 faster than other OnePlus devices. On top of that, the newer your phone is, the faster you’ll see the upgrade. When the company launches the OnePlus Open, it will also likely be one of the first to get the update. As you go further down the list, you risk more and more of needing to wait until 2024 to get Android 14.

OPPO has the distinction of offering an Android 14 beta for a foldable phone — the only non-Google company on this list to do so. There are also other open betas available in the Find X series, as well as a few in the Reno series.

Rest assured that other supported OPPO flagships will gain beta access eventually. This also goes for the OPPO Find N3 when it eventually launches. As with OnePlus (which is a sister brand), expect the latest OPPO flagships to get Android 14 first, with older flagships to follow. Mid-range and budget phones may or may not receive Android 14 at all, let alone beta access.

You can get the Android 14 beta on the Realme GT 2 Pro right now. Unfortunately, this is the only phone with beta access at the moment. Thankfully, there are over two dozen Realme phones that will eventually get beta access. This includes the GT Neo 3, the Realme 11 Pro, and even the Realme 9. Here’s the full list:

Samsung is one of the best companies for Android upgrades. Even though it doesn’t match Google’s new seven-year upgrade commitment for the Pixel u8 series, Samsung offers five years of updates to almost all of its phones, while Google only promises long-term upgrades for its newest Pixels.

Because of how large Samsung’s portfolio is and the sheer number of phones that will get Android 14, the list below does not include every eligible device. These are only the major Samsung phones that will get Android 14:

Samsung gets faster and faster with its Android upgrade rollouts. In 2022, it had all of its eligible flagships on Android 13 before the end of 2022. We expect 2023 to be no different. In other words, if you have a Galaxy S or Galaxy Z phone on the list above, you should have Android 14 before the end of the year. Some Galaxy A phones on that list might need to wait until 2024.

As of now, the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A34, and Galaxy S22 are some of the phones with access to Android 14 beta. To check if your Samsung phone has an open beta, download the Samsung Members app from the Galaxy Store.

Sony’s Android support is not great. It only promises two Android upgrades, even for its mega-expensive flagships. As such, the list of phones that will likely get Android 14 is quite short:

Sony Xperia 1 IV
Sony Xperia 10 IV

As for a timeline, the 2023 Xperia phones will be the first to get Android 14. We’d expect them to start getting betas towards the end of 2023 and then stable launches in early 2024. Sony could surprise us and get a stable launch out before the end of the year, but don’t bet on it.

TECNO is not a well-known brand in the US, but it is still offering Android 14 beta access. Only one phone family is eligible at the moment: the Camon 20 series. We expect TECNO flagships — including the TECNO Phantom V Fold — to get Android 14, too. However, we don’t know if any other phones will see beta access or skip right to the stable launch.

So far, there are only two phones under the vivo umbrella with beta access to Android 14. They are the vivo X90 Pro, shown above, and the Iqoo 11.

We would expect vivo to take the same approach to Android 14 rollouts as sister brands OPPO and OnePlus. In other words, expect the latest flagships to get the update first, followed by older flagships, and then, finally, applicable mid-rangers.

Xiaomi was one of the fastest companies to go from beta to stable (outside of Google, of course). Three phones in the Xiaomi lineup already have a stable version of MIUI 14, based on Android 14. They are the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13, and the Xiaomi 12T.

You can expect other major phones in Xiaomi’s roster to get Android 14, although it’s not clear if there will be other phones seeing beta access soon.
