A ban went into effect Thursday in Amherstburg for all open-air burning, including campfires, fireworks, fire pits or chimneys.

Fire Chief Bruce Montone issued the burn ban due to the “extremely dry environmental conditions that have made our community more susceptible to unexpected and uncontrolled fire event.”
Montone said the ban is meant to be a proactive measure during “this period of heightened fire danger.”
A lack of precipitation has led to dry vegetation increasing the potential for fires to spread rapidly and become uncontrollable.
Montone is also asking residents to refrain from activities that involve open flames or sparks and to be cognizant of responsible cigarette disposal, ensuring cigarettes are extinguished in designated receptacles.
Officials are asking residents to report any signs of fire or suspicious activities.
