BÉCANCOUR — A motorcyclist died overnight Saturday in a single-vehicle crash in Bécancour, about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City in the centre of the province.
A witness called emergency services at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday to inform them of the event, which took place on Route 132; at that spot the road is also known as Bécancour Blvd.

“The motorcyclist was riding on Route 132 when, for reasons not yet known, he left the road after a curve,” said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Stéphane Tremblay.
“Resuscitation manoeuvres were carried out on the driver. He was transported to hospital where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.”
The victim was a 57-year-old man from Bécancour.
“No other vehicle was involved in the collision. A patroller trained in investigating collisions was assigned to the scene,” Trembley said. “The event took place in a zone with a 70km/h speed limit.”
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The SQ investigation is continuing.
