My tip is to avoid heels when traveling, as many destinations worldwide have uneven streets, and you don’t want to break an ankle trying to look good. Cole Haan’s ballet flats are small, comfortable, and easy to pack up, so they make for a fabulous, comfortable flat for travel. What’s surprising about these flats is how comfy they are for such a simple shoe.

They’re formal enough that you could get away wearing them to a wedding, opera, or any formal event. They form a wide variety of feet with supple leather, ensuring comfort.

As a short person, I also appreciate the very subtle wedge heel. These are made with leather and provide a synthetic sole. I love these flats for a night out on the town in a new city. A wide toe box means that those with wide feet should give these a try as it can be challenging to find untroubled flats. These flats run true to size and only take a day or two to form to the foot.

I like the classic round toe with the Tory Burch charm on the top. Heel beds are slip-resistant and split in half so they can fold. The fold allows them to quickly slip in luggage or a bag, which is excellent for travel and last-minute occasions.

The leather is soft right out of the box, and they take minimal time to break in, so you’re safe to buy it right before your next trip. You can wear them right out of the box without any socks or slips without the risk of a blister.

The Massimo Matteo Penny Keepers are leather with leather lining and slightly cushioned footbeds. They are very comfortable, but the slight cushion is not good enough to stand in all day. They work better as a friendly evening shoe or perhaps an easy travel day in which you’d like to look cute.

They’re super comfortable, and I would feel comfortable in them for hours of standing. They’re great flats for women with plantar fasciitis due to their excellent arch support.

These have comfort in their name, and they are a great pair of stylish and comfortable flats for women. These flats use firm leather on the exterior and have a rounded toe. The removable footbed lined with fabric makes for a comfy footbed, or you can insert a custom insole for arch support.

These flats are super cute and my favorite fashionable shoes in my travel wardrobe. What’s most important about these shoes and why they are so great for travel is the tremendous support they offer for your feet. They’re beautiful shoes, and it’s tough to find anything similar for the price. The only complaint I have is they’re a little narrow, so if you have bunion or wide feet, they might be a little tight.

They’re made from leather or suede and feature a bow that holds up well over time. Minna Flats still slip on and off easily with a firm back, which is a helpful feature. I like the light colors, but they don’t hold up against dirt and grime.

Naturalizer Flexy Ballet Flat

Naturalizer’s Flexy Ballet flat is similar in style to the SoftWalks listed above. However, they’re about half the price. We note that these shoes tend to run a little narrow, so those with wide feet should look elsewhere. On the sole is a tough rubber that makes them slip-resistant and quiet. The Flexy flat offers a medium amount of support.

Sketchers may not be not for their style, and these comfort flats live up to that name. Cleos are still not a bad-looking pair of flats, and like many Sketchers shoes, they are incredibly comfortable.

A wide toe box and good arch support make them a tremendous flat for women with wide feet. They slip on pretty quickly, and the slight heel gives enough support. Oh, and the breathable fabric allows them to keep you cool in the summer.

If you need a robust flat that you can walk around in every day, the Ayla low is a great choice. The stand-out feature for me is the outer soles that offer a lot more protection and support than any other flat on this list. If you have events outside, these would be a good call.

Women’s Insoles For Flats

If you have weak arches or problematic feet, a pair of insoles can help make any pair of shoes work for you. I have a bunion and have found that insoles make all the difference for comfort in my athletic shoes.

Insoles may not work for all of these flats, but it’s possible with the correct insole, you can have a very comfortable flat. I recommend trying out a custom insole in sneakers and boots to see if they can slip into your flats.

FitMyFoot uses images of your feet to custom map your feet and then ship your specialty insoles to your home. We love our insoles and use them in our hiking boots as we cover many miles in them. Of course, you can pull them out of shoes and swap them around as you need them.

Superfeet

Superfeet is a great affordable option for insoles with mild foot pain. I don’t know if I’d recommend them for someone with plantar fasciitis. They don’t operate like those cheap gel insets you find at the drug store but focus on adequately distributing your weight across your feet.

The result is better comfort, foot health, and even back health in the long run. The Superfeet Green is by far the most popular option. The only negative of Superfeet is. They may not be robust enough as they do not custom mold your feet like Sole or Wiivv.

Sole

Soles are a cross between Superfeet and FitMyFoot as they are affordable and custom mold to your feet. Instead of a custom mapping, they are heat molded, which you do at home. We’ve used their sandals, and they are some of the most comfortable sandals we’ve ever worn.

How to Travel With Your Shoes?

I always travel with shoes in a separate part of my luggage. I don’t want the dust and dirt from the street to get on my clothes. If I’m traveling in a suitcase, I will place my shoes in either a reusable bag or a packing cube and place them sole up at the bottom of my bag.

If I am on an adventure, I will wrap my shoes in a reusable bag and place them at the bottom of the backpack or duffel bag. If they are travel flip-flops or rugged tennis shoes, I will either wrap them by their shoelaces on the outside of the bag or place them in the side holds. Just watch out for theft if you leave your suitcase unattended.

There are at least three pairs of shoes in my bag, but it all depends on the season and destination.

A sad reality of traveling is that you won’t have room to bring several different pairs of flats to fit every occasion. Whatever pair of shoes or boots you settle on, you’re bound to spend a lot of time in them and cover a fair number of miles.
