We have one more…’: Rohit Sharma eyes T20 World Cup glory | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The dejection was clearly evident on Rohit Sharma’s face when the broadcasters asked the Indian skipper about the ODI World Cup loss. India, who were the only unbeaten team till the final in the quadrennial event, held in India, had lost to Australia in the title clash at the jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in November last year. Following a triumphant 3-0 victory in the three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Afghanistan, Rohit faced questions from the broadcasters regarding the ODI World Cup setback.

To this, Rohit, who looked emotional, said: “I don’t want to think about it now (World Cup loss). For me, 50 over World Cup is the biggest World Cup. It’s not like I don’t give that importance to the T20 World Cup and World Test Championship. We have been brought up seeing the 50-over World Cup. And when it is played in India, it’s quite big.”

India went into the semifinals after winning all their group matches. They defeated Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Netherlands. WATCH:In the semis, India defeated New Zealand by a huge margin of 70 runs to set up a title clash with mighty Australia. India, who last won an ICC ODI World Cup title way back in 2011 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy, faltered in the final and lost the title clash by six wickets. With the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place from June 4 to 30 this year, hosted jointly by the West Indies and the United States, Rohit is aiming for the coveted trophy.

“We tried our best, but unfortunately we couldn’t do it. The entire team was sad. I am sure the fans were sad too. But we have one more opportunity. We will try our best to use this opportunity in a better way to win the World Cup,” an emotional Rohit said. India secured their inaugural T20 World Cup title in 2007, under Dhoni, marking their sole title victory in the showpiece tournament since its inception.
