Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy has clashed with Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes over the “division” of Australians following the Voice to Parliament referendum in 2023.
Mr Conroy and Ms Hughes joined Sky News Australia host Paul Murray to discuss the amendments to stage three tax cuts and what it meant to everyday Australians, with Ms Hughes claiming the Albanese government would profit “five referendums” worth of money per year.
“You’re the only one who is still talking about the referendum,” Mr Conroy said.
“Mate, let me tell you, there’s lots of people still talking about the referendum,” Ms Hughes fired back.
“Just because you guys don’t want to talk about the referendum, most Australians remember how Albanese tried to divide this country and we have now seen on Australia Day more division and absolutely more vitriol,” she said.
“Albanese has done nothing but drive division in the country.”
