New York-listed Safe Bulkers has continued its newbuilding push with a deal for yet another kamsarmax in Japan.
The 82,000 dwt ship, a sister vessel to several Safe Bulkers newbuilds, has been designed to meet the Phase 3 requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index and also comply with the NOx-Tier III regulations.
“Consistent with our ESG strategy, we have placed an additional order for a Phase 3 newbuild targeting a gradual fleet renewal and the subsequent operational and financial advantages associated with it,” said Loukas Barmparis, president of Safe Bulkers.
In December, the company booked a kamsarmax newbuild which will be delivered by an unnamed Japanese yard in the first half of 2026. The latest newbuild is set to deliver in the third quarter of 2026.
Including this order, Safe Bulkers has nine newbuild vessels for delivery between 2024 and 2027, two of which are methanol dual-fuel booked in October.
The Polys Hajioannou-led company counts 46 vessels in its fleet, consisting of 11 panamaxes, nine kamsarmaxes, 18 post-panamaxes and eight capes.
