Police are searching more locations across Christchurch for real estate agent Yanfei Bao, who has now been missing for a week.
Bao was last seen on Wednesday, July 19, and an active missing person investigation remains ongoing, Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said.
Police are searching in and around the Halswell River and the nearby area of Greenpark. The Police National Dive Squad has been called in to assist.
On Wednesday morning, police staff in two inflatable boats could be seen slowly working their way up the river from the Neills Rd base.
A man in a wetsuit at the rear of one of the boats was monitoring what appears to be an underwater camera.
The new site of interest is about 3km north of where officers were searching on Tuesday, just south of Lincoln.
Police were seen walking through long grass and checking the undergrowth on a property on Clarks Rd near Lake Ellesmere. There is a storage building on the site, as well as hay bales and farming equipment.
“We are keeping an open mind as to where Yanfei is and what may have happened to her, but we do have grave concerns at this time,” Reeves said.
“As such, we are considering all possible lines of enquiry and making every effort to locate her.”
Reeves said staff would remain at the Trevor St address in Wigram, conducting a scene examination.
Bao was due to show a potential buyer through the property on the day she disappeared.
While residents spoken to by Stuff couldn’t recall seeing Bao last week, police are hoping CCTV cameras on various homes in the street captured her movements, and those of anyone involved in her disappearance.
On Tuesday morning, investigators paid close attention to two cameras on the front of the house next door to the Trevor St property, and appeared to be photographing an area of footpath where footage may have captured someone walking past.
The man accused of kidnapping Bao was arrested in the public area of Christchurch International Airport on Saturday, with no bags and a one-way flight to China booked.
The details about the arrest of the accused, who appeared in the Christchurch District Court briefly on Monday, emerged as police reiterated they were still “trying to locate her and bring her home safe and well”.
The man’s car, a silver Mitsubishi sedan which has been the focus of police enquiries, was found parked near the airport on Saturday.
The accused was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody.
