Sky News host Peta Credlin says there would have been a “big price paid” for the release of Australian journalist Cheng Lei from China and the partial lifting of trade bans.
“The basic problem is that the PM is almost gushing in his praise for China, for ending punishments against Australia that should never have been inflicted in the first place,” Ms Credlin said.
“Believe me, the Chinese Communist Party doesn’t do what’s right. Everything it does is instead transactional.”
Ms Credlin said she thinks it’s a pity the Prime Minister turned up on Xi Jinping’s “turf” to give him the powerful images he needs internally at a time of unprecedented global tensions.
“Make no mistake, China is the greatest strategic threat to peace and western democracies,” she said.
