More than 3,000 health workers across Canada have signed a petition that demands Israel immediately halt bomb attacks on hospitals in Gaza as part of a ceasefire with terror group Hamas.

The Health Workers Alliance for Palestine, a group of physicians, health workers and medical students in support for Palestinian people, shared a letter Nov. 10 that calls for an end to hostilities in Gaza, specifically a ceasefire and an immediate end to the targeting of health-care facilities and workers.

“There are no circumstances in which health facilities, patients, and health-care workers can be viewed as legitimate targets of military operations,” the letter reads. “Israel’s war crimes must stop immediately. We are outraged by the dehumanization of Palestinians that is being used to justify the loss of over 10,000 lives, including more than 4,500 children.”
In less than two weeks, the petition has received more than 3,200 signatures, mostly from Ontario.

However, the letter does not call for an end to the terror group’s use of health facilities as part of its war against Israel, which was spurred last month, following a terrorist attack by Hamas forces that left at least 1,200 Israelis dead and more than 240 taken hostage.
“Curious that you wouldn’t condemn the Hamas terrorists for using hospitals and patients as human shields,” one person responded to Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, which shared the petition on social media site X.
“They are responsible for the destruction to the Gaza health-care system.”
Others noted Hamas could stop the hostilities, and thereby the targeting of the health facilities, if they put down their weapons.
“Were you sincere, you would be apolitical,” another wrote. “You are not. Not once have you condemned Hamas for installing military activities in, around, and beneath their own hospitals. Such contemptible behaviour cannot be ignored.”

Other demands in the letter include an “immediate end to the 17-year illegal siege on Gaza and opening the Rafah crossing to allow for medical and humanitarian aid to flow unimpeded,” and an end to the occupation of Palestine.
Earlier this month, a similar letter “advocating against Israel’s atrocities in Palestine” was signed by hundreds of lawyers and law students with no condemnation of Hamas’ October attack on Israel.
