After a gap of around seven years, the district police will restart visits of senior officers to rural areas to keep a check on anti-social elements and to coordinate better with panchayats.
The officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) have been deputed to regularly visit the rural areas. Last time, the field visits were conducted in 2016.
In an order on November 23, SSP Dr Sandeep Garg deputed 12 police officers to carry out visits in the rural areas. The officers will visit the rural areas and hold meetings with the local people and also maintain a record of anti-social elements.
An officer who was deputed for carrying out the visits said that they would keep a check on the anti-social elements who might have died or are silent at the moment, so that they can be recommended for striking off the surveillance list.
The officer added that the visits, which had not been conducted for the past around eight years, will give a better opportunity to them to connect with the people.
“We can focus on bad character verification, checking arms licences, general crime picture, outlook towards police cooperation, checking bailed outs, composition of population and any special areas where SHOs need to focus more,” the officer added.
In the order, the SSP directed the officers to submit the report within 15 days of completing the field visits to the rural areas.
