The naked man was only in the water for around five minutes before the cops arrived.
A man crashed a car outside a Bass Pro Shop in the US state of Alabama before stripping nude and ‘cannonballing’ into a giant aquarium inside the store, police say.
The incident happened in front of bemused shoppers in Leeds, just outside of Birmingham, the town’s police chief Paul Irwin said.
The 42-year-old apparent naturalist initially did a ‘cannonball’ leap into the aquarium and then stood under a waterfall, witnesses say. Video shows him getting out of the water to yell at two officers, before diving back in.
He eventually climbed over the side of the aquarium and fell to the concrete floor below. Police then arrested him, the news site Al.com reported.
The man was in the water for about five minutes before officers arrived, Chief Irwin said.
Video taken by bystanders and posted online shows the man cannonball into the aquarium and stand under a waterfall feature afterwards.
Warning! The video below does show a little bit of nudity.
Then, as two police officers start their walk up the stairs to the surface of the tank, he gets out of the water, yells something and dives back in.
He continues to shout at officers before climbing over the glass side of the aquarium and falls to the floor – where he appears to get knocked out by the impact.
One officer covers the nudie swimmer with a drawn Taser whilst the other handcuffs him. The man begins to struggle as he seemingly regains consciousness.
The rogue swimmer faces several charges including public lewdness, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. He was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation before being booked into jail, AI reports.
