Keanu Reeves has been set to receive the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st annual Saturn Awards ceremony, which has itself been dedicated to the memory of Reddick, a friend and former host of the show, who could be seen opposite the John Wick star in the entire franchise, passing away in March at the age of 60.
Presenting the award to Reeves at the ceremony, streaming live via ElectricNOW at 4 p.m. PST on February 4, with Joel McHale as host, is Bosch star Titus Welliver.
Saturn producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus joined Robert Holguin, President of award show presenter The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, in explaining that the new award in Reddick’s name “symbolizes and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but their character; someone who’s a true goodwill ambassador in the industry.”
The trio underscored that “from Science Fiction (“The Matrix Trilogy”), Fantasy (“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”/”Constantine”) & Horror (Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula”/”The Devil’s Advocate”), Keanu has done it all — not to mention “Speed” and “Point Break.” Keanu is not just a Hollywood icon but also a shining example of humility and gratitude.” They noted, in closing, that “throughout his incredible career, he has never forgotten the support of his fans and the filmmakers who’ve supported him all these years,”sharing that they’re “thrilled to celebrate Lance’s memory with a dear friend and a genre icon.”
The Saturn Awards were introduced back in 1973 to recognize excellence in genre work, across film and TV. Other awards to be presented at this year’s ceremony will be announced shortly.
Known for his role as Continental Hotel concierge Charon in all four John Wick films, as well as the forthcoming Ana de Armas-led spinoff Ballerina, Reddick had been doing press for the action franchise’s fourth and final chapter around the time when the news of his passing emerged.
Also known for turns on series like The Wire and Fringe, among others, Reddick left behind projects including 20th/Hulu’s White Men Can’t Jump reboot; Disney+’s series adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians; William Friedkin’s The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial for Showtime; and John Ridley’s Shirley Chisholm biopic Shirley for Netflix.
