A 14-year-old boy was detained in Prayagraj district on Sunday for allegedly killing a six-year-old after a failed attempt to sexually abuse him, police said.
The victim’s body bearing injuries from a blunt object on the head and face was recovered from an under-construction building two days back. “We solved the case with the help of local intelligence. The 14-year-old boy has confessed to having committed the crime. He was produced on Sunday before the Juvenile Justice Board which sent him to correction home,” said a police officer part of the investigation.
The victim, a student of class 1, used to play outside with the detained teenager outside his house, the police said, adding the two are from the same community.
The six-year-old’s father had lodged an FIR on charges of kidnapping at the local police station after he went missing while playing outside his house on December 27.
The police picked up the boy for questioning and he confessed to having taken the boy to the under-construction building to sexually abuse him. But when the boy raised an alarm, he hit him with a brick on his head and face fearing he would tell everyone about this, they said.
