Warning: Strong language
If he was on the ballot in this country, I’d vote for blue-collar New York construction worker Paulie.

In a heartbeat.
In a now famous social media clip, the burly blue-collar worker shows more moral clarity, conscience, and decency than those in 1,000 faculty lounges or political backrooms could dream of.
For the uninitiated, Paulie and his crew last week were working in the Forest Hill area of Queens when a man came along, ripping the posters of kidnapped Israeli children off power posts. This did not go down with Paulie.

Paulie confronts the man: “I’m not f****** Jewish. He’s not Jewish. I don’t know if he is or not. You Jewish [to another of his workers]?”
Buddy replies: “No, I ain’t Jewish.”

Paulie continues: “It doesn’t matter. This is the f****** U.S. This is New York City. You don’t have a fucking right to touch that shit. It’s a free country. You can wave your Palestine flag and say death to the Jews or America or whatever you want but we can put up f****** signs.”
The man mumbles something indistinguishable.

But Paulie is not through: “You are doing something. You are offending us .”
Again, the man mumbles excuses.
Paulie continues: “Yeah, you are. When you’re throwing that on the floor, you’re littering the city. In a minute, I’m gonna litter the f****** floor with you. So move the f*** on. Do you have proof they’re not kidnapped? No, so shut the f*** up.”
The man says: “Don’t touch me [Paulie isn’t and doesn’t].”
Paulie adds: “I know that’s what you f****** want. I’m f****** dying to put you in the hospital.”

His buddies then lead him away.
A world away in the Manhattan neighbourhood of Morningside Heights, more than 100 Columbia University professors went over the boards for their entitled students cheering for the Hamas death cult.

Some of the kids — and adults — are discovering there are real-world consequences for defiling posters, screaming, “death to Israel,” anti-Semitic rhetoric and trying to intimidate people who happen to disagree with you.

Instead, what we need to do, the pinheads on the Ivy League campus really want us to “recontextualize” the Oct. 7 Hamas horror attacks. And — get this — they’re calling on administrators to protect them from “disturbing reverberations” on campus.
This week, a videographer caught up to Paulie.
“I’m not a superstar, I’m just a regular guy who didn’t like what I saw and it shouldn’t be celebrated what I did … it should be normal,” Paulie said.
“Everyone should react like that. This shouldn’t be a news story because someone doesn’t like posters of murdered children and kidnapped children being taken down.”

He added: “This should be the norm, not the exception. That guy was the one should be the exception. That’s it.”
There’s little doubt in my mind Paulie would act the same if someone were ripping down posters of murdered and kidnapped Palestinian children. It’s called character and it is now a scarce commodity on university campuses, in politics and in executive suites.
My Toronto Sun colleague and legendary Canadian political operative Warren Kinsella concurs.
“This guy knows right from wrong. He’s the kind of guy we need in Ottawa. I’d run his campaign for free!” Kinsella said.
Paulie has my vote.
