The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation was able to obtain approvals for the donation of organs from five brain-dead patients to patients with end-stage organ failure at Prince Meshari bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Baljurashi, King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam, King Saud Medical City, and Cleveland Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

The Center, in a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Thursday, said that the lives of two children, aged 5 and 8, who suffered from end-stage heart failure, were saved by two heart transplant operations. The life of a 44-year-old citizen who suffered from end-stage heart failure was also saved by a heart transplant operation.

The Center added that the life of a child, aged 2, was saved from end-stage liver failure by a liver transplant that restored joy and a smile to his face. The suffering of three citizens, aged 24, 54, and 58, from end-stage liver failure was also ended.

The Center also noted that six kidney transplants were performed for three citizens, aged 17, 49, and 56. Two kidney transplants were also performed for two women, aged 27 and 45, which gave them hope and ended their suffering with end-stage kidney failure and hemodialysis sessions. In addition, a pancreas transplant was performed for a 40-year-old citizen.

Dr. Talal Al-Koufy, Director General of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, explained that the organ allocation process was carried out in accordance with medical ethics and in a way that ensures fair distribution according to the medical priorities of patients. He pointed out that the success achieved was the result of the joint cooperation of all concerned parties.
