Ben Stokes scores a century against the Netherlands

England have already crashed out of the Cricket World Cup, which was sealed by the 33-run defeat to Australia, but will want to restore pride against the Netherlands.
For England, the defence of their title could not have gone any worse, but there is still something to play for, with only the top eight in the standings qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
Even that will not be straightforward, such has been England’s form that they sit rooted to the foot of the table, with the fewest points and a lower net-run rate than any other team. While yesterday Australia booked their place in the semi-finals as Glenn Maxwell led them to victory against Afghanistan.
There will be plenty of time after the tournament for a full analysis of how England’s title defence could go so disastrously wrong with very few warning signs before the squad departed for India, but for now there is a small chance to at least move off the bottom of the table, and two matches left against the Netherlands and Pakistan.

Wicket! Stokes out for 108! – England 334-9
Five inside the ring due to slow over rate and Stokes is on strike for the final over of the innings.
van Beek has to bowl his first ball again with an attempted wide yorker that was just too wide.
The next one is a full toss dispatched down the ground for six.
Stokes out! He goes for another big one, the bottom hand comes off the bat and he has been caught at long off for 108!

Willey has got off the mark with a massive first-ball six! He has hit a few in this tournament and that one was no different and has gone 75 metres.
He is out next ball but with one over left that will not matter.

Wicket and Woakes 50! England 321-6
Woakes has gone for it this time and has got hold of it and sends it for six to move on to 47, and follows it up with a four to bring up his half century!
He tries to score another one and gets an edge on it as the ball went through to the keeper and has to depart for 51, but it was a good innings from the all-rounder.

The sun has just about set in Pune, and Stokes reverse-sweeps for four to bring up his first World Cup hundred.
It came from 78 balls, he absorbed the pressure then accelerated, and has dragged England towards a respectable total here.

Stokes is into the 90s with a huge six off de Leede, it is now his biggest score in World Cup cricket, it also brings up the 100 partnership between him and Woakes.
He follows it up with a smashed four down the ground.

The previous over was the best in the World Cup so far for England with 24 from it. van Beek can also only bowl two successive wides at the start of the next.
Stokes is struggling between the wickets here as he often does with that on-going left knee problem. Five wides brings more welcome runs for England, that last over really seems to have shifted the momentum.
There is a fourth wide in the over, and 14 runs from it.

Woakes took a single off the first ball of the over to bring Stokes on strike to face Dutt’s final over.
And he does go for it, a boundary into the off side takes England past the 250 mark.
He follows it up with a fortunate six over the leg side, the fielder almost got there but could only tip it over the rope.
Two balls later he goes for a reverse sweep, misses it and falls over and the Netherlands have reviewed…but survives with a murmur on the snicko leading the third umpire to believe there was a bottom edge.
The next ball is a high no ball that Stokes makes no mistakes dispatching over the rope for six, and Dutt will have to bowl it again.
And that one goes for six too! 24 runs from the over!

This pair are still going and it will be interesting to see when they really start to go for it.
England will want to get as close to 300 runs as they can.

Stokes brings up his half century with a huge six over midwicket, it has been an important innings for England and helped steady the ship while the other wickets tumbled.
