Between Friday and Saturday, the Mumbai Airport Customs authorities intercepted eight individuals in separate instances at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and seized 6.19 kgs gold valued over Rs 3.2 crore and three branded watches.
The authorities further revealed that the intercepted individuals are Indian nationals and were caught after landing from international flights.

In the first instance, a Kerala resident was caught at the airport. He was travelling from Dubai to Mumbai via an Indigo flight and he was intercepted on the basis of suspicion after which three branded watches (Rolex, Patek Philippe and Breguet) valued at Rs 54 lakh along with 18 carat gold hooks weighing 10.80 gram were found concealed in his clothes.
Another passenger, a resident of Kolhapur, had hidden 24 carat gold dust in wax in two pouches weighing 2,250 gram. The pouches were found inside his undergarments.
Three other passengers from Raigad, Kerala and Haryana, who were also traveling from Dubai, were caught with 1,570 gram, 289 gram and 239 gram gold which they had concealed in their trousers, shoes and body, respectively. The gold was recovered during searches.

Three more passengers, who were travelling from Bangkok, Dammam and Riyadh, were also intercepted and during further searches, gold was recovered from them.
“A Mumbai resident travelling from Bangkok had hidden 24 KT Gold Dust in wax (three pieces) weighing 725 gram in his rectum while the passenger travelling from Dammam had concealed 24 KT Gold Bars (six pieces) weighing 699.30 grams inside his shoes,” said a Customs official.
The official added, “An Indian national, who is a resident of Kasargod, Kerala, travelling from Riyadh to Mumbai, was intercepted and 24 KT Gold Dust in wax (three pouches) weighing 415 gram (net) were found concealed in the waist line of his trousers.”
