THE BAHUJAN Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday expelled Ram Shiromani Verma, its Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Shravasti, over allegations of “indiscipline” and “anti-party activities”.
Verma won the Shravasti seat in 2019, when the BSP had allied with the Samajwadi Party (SP), defeating the BJP’s Daddan Mishra by 5,320 votes.
On Saturday, BSP state president Vishwanath Pal said, “The district level leadership has expelled him (Verma) from the party over allegations ofindiscipline.”
A BSP leader in Sharavasti also said Verma was involved in anti-party activities and hence faced the action. “He was given warnings several times but there was no improvement in his working. Keeping this in mind and the interest of the party, the Shravasti MP has been expelled from the party,” the leader said.
The BSP has seen a string of expulsions and exits of senior leaders in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. The first to be expelled was Amroha MP Danish Ali, who has since joined the Congress. Ali, who faced communal slurs on the floor of Parliament from BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, was suspended by the BSP not long after, for “anti-party activities” after he joined the walkout from Parliament in support of TMC MP Mahua Moitra in the “cash for query” issue.

The second to leave was Afzal Ansari, the MP from Ghazipur and the brother of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Afzal was immediately declared by the SP as its candidate from Ghazipur.
One of the biggest BSP leaders to leave has been its Ambedkarnagar sitting MP Ritesh Pandey. Joining the BJP, he spoke about being neglected by the BSP leadership.Recently, Shah Alam Guddu Jamali, who has been a BSP MLA twice from Mubarakpur, joined the SP.
