Assessment at NSW coal plant shows it could last longer than previously expected

The owner of one of Australia’s largest coal power stations may extend the plant’s life by four years as concerns increase about the ability to transition to renewable energy.

Czech-owned Delta Electricity says the plant on the New South Wales Central Coast, which was due to shut down in 2029, could stay open until 2033, potentially making it one of the last remaining coal power stations in the state.

The company claims an assessment of equipment at the Vales Point facility shows the technical life of the generators could last longer than was previously expected.
