AFLW players will not receive the same prize money as men’s players in the 2023 season, despite the league committing the same amount for the men’s and women’s competitions.
The AFL announced on the eve of the eighth AFLW season that the player prize money for AFL Women’s players would almost double to match the men’s total.
AFLW season seven player prize money was $623,922, but the figure will almost double to $1.1 million split across the top eight teams this season.
In the men’s competition, that money is split across players in the top four teams.
“We have two of the best sporting competitions in the country,” AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said.
“A great announcement in addition to the McClelland Trophy and $1 million in prize money to be shared across the champion club’s AFL and AFLW players that was introduced earlier this year.”
