According to officers, Naik, an Odisha native who was a first-year MTech student pursuing civil engineering, left behind a suicide note. Speaking to indianexpress.com, an officer from Sangareddy Rural police station said, “We received information in this regard at around 9 pm. A case of suspicious death has been registered and investigation is on.”
Naik, the officer said, moved into the hostel only on July 26. She did not have a roommate as PG students are allotted single rooms. “We believe she was depressed. The suicide note is in Odia. Her parents have been informed and they are on their way,” he added.
Last month, Karthik, 21, a second-year BTech student at IIT Hyderabad, left the campus without informing anyone. His body later washed ashore on the beach in Visakhapatnam in what the police believe to be a case of suicide. In September last year, Megh Kapoor, another student at IIT-H who had several backlogs to clear, was found dead outside the campus. A month before that, B Rahul, another MTech student at the institute, also allegedly died by suicide at the hostel.
