Re: “GM Ross Atkins serves up a deadline swing and a miss for improving Blue Jays offence” (Rob Longley, Aug. 1). Why would anyone be surprised with Blue Jay failures during the Mark Shapiro/Ross Atkins era. They came in and got rid of Alex Anthopoulos who was so incompetent that he went on to win a World Series with the Braves and is poised to win another or at least get there, while the claim to fame of Shapiro/Atkins is renovating the Rogers Centre so that fans have a distraction from the play on the field. And whatever happened to their primary goal of rebuilding the minor-league system? Seems all we’ve heard this year is how little they have in the minors to use in trades. Leafs make the playoffs, although with little success, and the drumbeats for management change are ever louder. Blue Jays are overhyped disappointments every year and Shapiro/Atkins skate by with no criticism. Shows how far the Jays have fallen in the priorities of Toronto’s fan base. Ted Rogers must be screaming in his grave. Read More
