A major fire broke out in the central hall of Hudson’s St. James Anglican Church on Sunday morning, resulting in significant damage to the building from both the fire and water used to put it out.
Fire departments from several surrounding areas assisted Hudson firefighters in putting out the blaze, according to Stéphane Brunet of the Hawkesbury fire department, who posted an alert on social media.

Supporting departments included Coteau-du-Lac, L’Île-Perrot, Ste-Marthe, St-Lazare, Pincourt, Rigaud, Terrasse-Vaudreuil and Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Hudson Mayor Chloe Hutchison expressed her support to the church’s congregation and Hudson residents more generally on social media around noon as firefighters continued to fight the blaze.
“We have been in touch with Reverend Sophie Rolland and through her strength and guidance, the message is that all remains positive, that regardless of the extent of today’s fire, there is every intention to rebuild whatever is destroyed and to reopen this place of heritage and shared love by the whole of the community,” Hutchison said.
“Reverend Sophie’s dedication and capability, along with the committed wardens and engaged congregation, will undoubtedly carry us through this terribly sad event.”
Brunet said residents located in the centre of Hudson would likely have discoloured tap water for a while during firefighting operations, but that it remained potable.
“(It) will return to its normal colour shortly after the end of firefighting activities,” Brunet said.
