An officer with the Windsor Police Service will not face criminal charges after a woman sustained a broken arm during an arrest earlier this year.

A probe by the Special Investigations Unit into the March 2 incident said the woman’s injury was “unfortunate,” and confirmed the officer’s use of force caused the broken arm. However, the investigation report said there “are no reasonable grounds to conclude that the injury was attributed to unlawful conduct on the part of the officer.”
Police were called to the area of Little River Road on March 1 to remove a woman, who was reportedly consuming drugs, from the basement of a home. Two officers spoke with the woman and she left without incident.
At about 2 a.m. the next day, the same two officers were called back to the house after the woman returned and reportedly tried to re-enter the home.
Police found the woman in the backyard shed and informed her she was under arrest for trespassing. When the officer put a handcuff on her right arm, the woman pulled her arm free from the officer’s grasp.
