    The Mountain Teaser Trailer

“Your mountain is your ancestor.” Madman Films has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a New Zealand film called The Mountain, marking the feature directorial debut of New Zealand actress Rachel House (from Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok and tons of other films). It’s currently set to open in NZ this March, though it still doesn’t have release dates set outside of the country. This looks great! I want to see it! The film explores the journey of three young people as they seek solace under the watchful gaze of the Taranaki mountain (aka “Taranaki Maunga” – see Google Maps) and companionship in the spirit of adventure. Starring Elizabeth Atkinson (Te Atiawa, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Toa, Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Tama, Kāi Tahu), Reuben Francis, and Terence Daniel (Ngāti Kahungunu, Raukawa ki Wharepūhunga, Kuki Airani – Aitutaki). They are also joined by Troy Kingi (Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) (Muru), Byron Coll, Fern Sutherland, and Sukena Shah. There’s just enough footage in this teaser to convince me this is a must watch film, with a similar vibe as Wilderpeople. That’s also one gorgeous mountain. Enjoy.

Here’s the first look teaser trailer for Rachel House’s The Mountain, direct from YouTube:

    The Mountain Teaser Trailer

The Mountain is a heartfelt drama about three children on a mission to find healing under the watchful eye of Taranaki Maunga, and discover friendship in the spirit of adventure. The Mountain is directed by acclaimed New Zealand actress / filmmaker Rachel House (Ngāti Mutunga, Te Atiawa, Kai Tahu), making her feature directorial debut after one other short film previously. The screenplay is written by Rachel House & Tom Furniss. Produced by Desray Armstrong (Te Aitanga-ā-Hauiti, Ngāti Porou) & Morgan Waru (Ngāti Porou). Executive Produced by Carthew Neal, Taika Waititi (Te-Whānau-ā-Apanui) & Paul Wiegard. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Madman Films will release House’s The Mountain in New Zealand cinemas on March 28th, 2024. No other international dates have been set yet – stay tuned for news.
