Power Rankings: The best teams in Europe – Week 11

    [ad_1]

    Following a week in which:

    – Jude Bellingham scored again.

    – Manchester United embarrassed themselves again.

    – Aston Villa won at Villa Park again.

We at 90min are back ranking the 10 best football teams in Europe right now:

    Stuttgart

Another week = another week in which Stuttgart are still on our watchlist.

The Bundesliga side bagged an impressive draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, but with other teams performing well in the Champions League, it just wasn’t enough to sneak them into our top ten.

    Maybe next week.

    Bayern Munich, Barcelona

Two pretty damn big football clubs to be axed from the rankings, eh?

We have good reasons for doing so though, as Barcelona have lost their last two games (to Girona and literal Royal Antwerp) and Bayern were, rather astonishingly, thumped 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.

In short, it hasn’t been a good week for either club.

Copenhagen, or ‘UEFA Champions League last 16 side Copenhagen’ as they are now officially known, have enjoyed quite the week on the continent.

The Danish team headed into their clash with talented a Galatasaray knowing that a win would earn them safe passage through Champions League group stages for the first time ever; and they went out and got said win thanks to a famous goal from Lukas Lerager.

PSV Eindhoven’s 2023/24 Eredivisie season so far:

    Played: 15Won: 15Draw: 0Lost: 0

    Yep, they’re still rolling.

Whisper it: are the wheels at Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen slowing?

The answer is ‘probably not’ but Alonso will be concerned with his team drawing their last two league games and missing the chance to take an eight-point lead atop of the Bundesliga table.

Yet another top team has fallen foul of Aston Villa in Birmingham.

Unlike title rivals Manchester City last week, Arsenal did actually perform quite well at Villa Park but were unable to convert any of the boatload of chances they created.

They probably need to invest in a top class striker in January.

Yep, Juventus won another game 1-0.

This time it was against SSC Napoli though, which is pretty damn impressive.

Max Allegri has built a near perfect Max Allegri team: boring but undeniably effective.

After an indifferent season in 2022/23, Liverpool are firmly back to their enthralling best in 2023/24.

The Reds capitalised on Arsenal’s defeat to Villa at the weekend to go top of the Premier League table, and now look like genuine title favourites.

    Jude Bellingham

Down a few this week thanks to a draw with Real Betis – a draw in which, yes, Jude Bellingham scored a goal.

That goal against Betis was his 16th of the season already – a tally which, yes, we agree is utterly ridiculous.

    Inter v Udinese - Serie A

Silly Transformers logo on the jersey aside (don’t pretend those films are good, don’t do it), Inter had another very good week in Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi’s side secured another comfortable win – this time a 4-0 victory over Udinese – too keep Juventus at arm’s length atop of the Serie A table. Nice one.

If you needed confirmation that Girona were actually good, you got it on Sunday.

The City Footbal Group team completely outthought and outfought Barcelona, earning a well deserved 4-2 win to go back top of La Liga.

For the first time in 90min Power Rankings history (five years of history if you’re wondering), Aston Villa are the number one best football team in Europe.

Having beaten Manchester City and Arsenal in the space of a week, it’s fair to say they deserve the tag too.
