There were scenes of jubilation as 9-year-old Irish Israeli Emily Hand was finally reunited with her family after 50 days of being held hostage in Gaza.
The Taoiseach took to social media to express his “joy and relief” at Emily’s release, but little did he realise that those 200 characters would cause such an international scandal.
His comments made headlines when the Israeli Foreign Minister said the Taoiseach has “lost his moral compass” resulting in the Irish ambassador to Israel being summoned for a reprimand.
Ellen Coyne is joined on the Indo Daily podcast by Philip Ryan, Political Editor at the Irish Independent, to discuss the fallout from comments made by the Taoiseach – and examine the possible long-term damage this has caused to Irish Israeli relations.
