Merchants said that the customer base is not limited to children alone.
Peach candy traders said that the candies come out in the form of dried peaches that they put in the machine by adding a substance to the sugar.
There was a time a few decades ago when the distant ringing of the bell placed on the bicycle of the vendor selling peach candies was music to the ears of children in the neighbourhood. Cycling from village to village in the rustic rural interiors of the country and selling peach candies to children and adults alike used to be the livelihood of so many people.
Nowadays, the times have changed and the eating habits of children have also changed to suit the modern times. The good old craze for peach candy still remains intact though, passed down for generations. But the age-old cycle has now been replaced by a more feasible machine on wheels. Traders are making peach sweets based on electronic machines and are running their businesses successfully.
Peach candy traders from Ongole in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district talked about selling these candies in machines to customers with News18. The merchants said that the candies come out in the form of dried peaches that they put in the machine by adding a substance to the sugar. The machine is also easily movable and can be transported easily by merchants who sell in different locations. According to them, the machine is easily available in the market for Rs 20,000, which they consider a meagre investment, given the substantial profits from the business.
The merchants added that the customer base is not limited to children alone and many middle-aged people come to buy the candies as well. For many of them, buying and eating these candies is like nostalgia as it is like reliving a part of their childhood for them. These customers say that they love the new variation of candy served with a stick as much as they loved eating them from wrappers, the merchants further said.
