New York-listed Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has won a charter deal for one of its capsize bulkers from Solebay Shipping.

The 179,362-dwt, 2011-built bulker Seattle was hired by Solebay Shipping on a gross charter rate of $17,500 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties.

The Semiramis Paliou-led company said that the contract was a direct continuation of a charter which started in February 2022. The current deal has a much higher daily rate of $26,500.

As for the new contract, it is expected to start on October 1, 2023, and last until a minimum of July 15, 2025, up to a maximum of September 30, 2025.

According to Diana Shipping, the employment of the vessel will generate approximately $11.27m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter.

Diana Shipping Inc.’s fleet currently consists of 41 dry bulk vessels: four newcastlemax, ten capesize, five post-panamax, six kamsarmax, seven panamax, and nine ultramax. As of today, the combined carrying capacity of the company’s fleet is approximately 4.7m dwt with a weighted average age of 10.48 years.

The company has ordered two methanol dual-fuel kamsarmaxes earlier this week from the Tsuneishi Zhoushan shipyard in China. The vessels are expected to deliver by the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028 costing $46m each.
