Adam Hadwin couldn’t contain himself after Nick Taylor’s monster putt to win the Canadian Open, so a security guard decided to do it for him.

In the race to celebrate with his childhood friend, Hadwin raced on the green with a bottle off champagne in a dead sprint towards Taylor. Unfortunately he was met just before he got there with an open-field tackle by a security guard who meant business.

It didn’t go unnoticed by the man who changed the history of Canadian golf on Sunday: “According to what I saw, he got a nice tackle,” Taylor said. “He was upright when I last saw him, though.”

Postmedia caught up with Hadwin after the failed rush toward the end zone and the Canadian didn’t seem any worse for the wear.
“I’m OK. I’ve got enough adrenalin running through me right now that even if I was a little sore I won’t feel it until tomorrow. So I’ll have to let you know tomorrow.”
The security guard came up to Hadwin about 10 minutes later and gave the golfer a more gentle hug.

“He came over to say it was his bad,” Hadwin said.
It will make a great memory for the two golfers who grew up together at Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford B.C.
“I’ve got a great photo of Nick hugging (caddie) Dave (Merkle) and me getting tackled in the background,” Hadwin said. “That might be my new screensaver.”
