Winning an international hair show award was like winning a Grammy for a local hairstylist.
“We call it like the Grammys but for hair,” said Lexy Delicata, the 25-year-old owner of Glam by Lexx, whose entry was chosen the winner in the platinum blonde category at the 2023 One Shot Hair awards.

Delicata, a LaSalle native, beat out licensed professionals from more than 120 countries competing in categories ranging from colour, cut, braids, hair extensions, salon décor, overall transformation and educational post.

The awards ceremony is hosted at a different location each year. This year it was held in Austin, Texas.
Delicata entered two years ago for the first time and reached the top 100 in the platinum hair-colour category.
“For me that was a huge accomplishment to even make it to the top 100 because again I’m seeing it as I’m a little hairstylist from Windsor, Ontario,” she said. “Nobody knows who I am.
“And then I’m submitting my work to the massive hair award show with the most talented hair stylists. So even for me to make the top 100 was a huge accomplishment that year.”
In 2022, Delicata again made the top 100 list for her platinum hair-colour work as well as top 100 for her salon decor.
This year, she ended up making top 100 for platinum, top 100 for salon suite again, top 100 for colour placement, top 100 for education and top 100 for hair cut.
“So I made a lot more categories this year, which is like crazy,” she said.
Her winning entry was a shot of her client photographed from the back of her head.
“It was a clean shot,” Delicata said. “It was very white, it looked healthy. It looked shiny. People were just saying it stood out in the category.”
And while there is only glory and a plaque for the winners — no cash award — Delicata said it’s a huge accomplishment that can lead to other benefits.
“Winning this could bring you new brand deals (with hair product companies),” she said. “People with millions of followers kind of recognize your work now and your name.
“Coming from a small city, people there didn’t really know where Windsor, Ontario was, so I think it was really nice to know that even if you’re from a small city you can still do great things. You just have to work a little harder.”
