Dean Rock believes there are more All-Ireland titles to be harvested by Dublin – if the current group stays together.
Along with several Sky Blue veterans, Rock is currently pondering his inter-county future in the wake of this year’s renaissance.
But having delivered a first Sam Maguire since Dublin completed six-in-a-row in 2020, he doesn’t believe this has to signal the end.
“It’s a tough one, knowing when the right time is to go or when to stay on,” admitted the eight-time All-Ireland medallist. “There’s certainly a lot more All-Irelands in that group, at the moment. But as you know, if a couple of players leave or there’s a mass exodus, obviously things can change very, very quickly.”
At 33, Rock is the same age as James McCarthy but has one less Celtic Cross than his clubmate, skipper and close friend. Just like Paul Mannion earlier this week, he has made it clear that McCarthy has his endorsement for the 2023 Footballer of the Year.
“As a footballer and as a man, there’s no better man you’d want to go to battle with, or go on the pitch with, and I’ve had the privilege of doing that since the age of six or seven,” said the Ballymun sharpshooter. “He’s probably the most brave and inspiring footballer that I’ve ever played with.”
